{"id":17538,"date":"2016-10-30T05:53:58","date_gmt":"2016-10-30T05:53:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.longrides.bike\/?page_id=17538"},"modified":"2024-03-17T08:35:59","modified_gmt":"2024-03-17T08:35:59","slug":"fleche-opperman-all-day-trial","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.longrides.bike\/?page_id=17538","title":{"rendered":"Fleche Opperman All Day Trial &#8211; 4 and 5 May 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.longrides.bike\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/20210327_101918.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"930\" src=\"https:\/\/www.longrides.bike\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/20210327_101918-1024x930.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20265\" style=\"width:527px;height:478px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.longrides.bike\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/20210327_101918-1024x930.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.longrides.bike\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/20210327_101918-300x272.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.longrides.bike\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/20210327_101918-768x697.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<p>The FNQ version of the Fleche Opperman All Day Trial &#8211; known in FNQ as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.audax.org.au\/portal\/rides\/register-calendar\/2490-fleche-s-big-troppy-2022\">Big TrOppy<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.audax.org.au\/portal\/rides\/register-calendar\/2491-fleche-s-little-troppy-2022\">Little TrOppy<\/a> &#8211; will be held on 4 and 5 May 2024.\u00a0 \u00a0Yep &#8211; we&#8217;ve changed from March to May, hoping to avoid cyclonic weather or energy sapping heat.\u00a0 And for those who don&#8217;t want to do the whole thing, or are looking for a more flexible approach to the TrOppy, we will again be offering the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.audax.org.au\/portal\/rides\/register-calendar\/2491-fleche-s-little-troppy-2022\">FNQ Fl-Oppy<\/a> (a flexible Oppy).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Oppy is a 24-hour team time trial held annually by Audax Australia in each capital city and a few other places (like FNQ).\u00a0 It is an event for teams of three to five bicycles (until FNQ got involved).\u00a0 NB:\u00a0 You can have single bikes, tandems or any other self-powered wheeled configuration.\u00a0 Audax, in it&#8217;s wisdom, counts bikes, not people.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19776\" src=\"https:\/\/www.longrides.bike\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Vote1ForBikes-team-TullyGumboot-Sat18May2019.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.longrides.bike\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Vote1ForBikes-team-TullyGumboot-Sat18May2019.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.longrides.bike\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Vote1ForBikes-team-TullyGumboot-Sat18May2019-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.longrides.bike\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Vote1ForBikes-team-TullyGumboot-Sat18May2019-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There are two levels of the Oppy (or three if you are in FNQ !!!) &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>full Oppy<\/strong> &#8211; Each team must ride at least 360km and finish at a designated location (Lenny Street Cafe &#8211; 73 Kennedy Highway Tolga for FNQ riders).<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>FNQ Little TrOppy<\/strong> &#8211; If you aren&#8217;t up for 24 hours of riding, try the FNQ Little TrOppy (or Petit Oppy).\u00a0 Ride the first 155km in 12 hours from Saturday morning, then take a break and finish the last 25km in two hours on Sunday morning to finish at the same time as the full Oppy (180 km in 12 + 2 hours).\u00a0 Petit TrOppy finishers can claim medals and all the other official Audaxian recognition.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>FNQ Fl-Oppy<\/strong> &#8211; Ignore all of the Oppy rules above.\u00a0 Design a ride that you (+\/- any number of mates) want to do.\u00a0 Start wherever, go where you want, ride as long (or as little) as you like, do loops\/backtrack\/take big breaks\/start late\/sleep in your own bed.\u00a0 Give the Ride Organiser a vague idea of what you are planning to do.\u00a0 Register for the Fl-Oppy and join us at Lenny Street on Sunday to self-declare your Fl-Oppy ride.\u00a0 You can&#8217;t claim a finisher&#8217;s medal, but you will still be insured and part of the event.\u00a0 And&#8230;. you are likely to have a good time.<\/p>\n<p>The 2024 edition of the Oppy will start on at 7am Saturday 4 May and finish 24 hours later. \u00a0In FNQ, the Oppy will finish at Lenny Street Cafe in Tolga at 7am on Sunday 5 May 2024. \u00a0Join us for a celebratory breakfast afterwards.<\/p>\n<h2>HOW DOES IT WORK?<\/h2>\n<p>The Oppy is a unique time trial in which teams ride a route of their own choosing to a designated finishing point. The only restriction on route selection is that teams should ride a tour, not repeat circuits.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.longrides.bike\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/OI001467.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-18924 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.longrides.bike\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/OI001467.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"349\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.longrides.bike\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/OI001467.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.longrides.bike\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/OI001467-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.longrides.bike\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/OI001467-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 349px) 100vw, 349px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>OK, BUT HOW DO I RIDE A SUCCESSFUL OPPY?<\/h2>\n<p>Follow our seven-step plan:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Gather your best riding buddies<\/strong> and sell them on the idea of riding the Oppy this year.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Work out a route.<\/strong> You can&#8217;t cover the same road twice in the same direction and you must ride at least 360km to reach the designated finish location within 24 hours. Otherwise, it&#8217;s up to you. \u00a0Start wherever you like, ride either 360km or 180km, and finish in Tolga.\u00a0 Or just design a good ride and let us know what you are planning and how many are coming for breakfast.<\/li>\n<li>Email your local organiser (in FNQ &#8211; gayle.sticher@audax.org.au) to <strong>enter your team.<\/strong> Also submit your route map for approval, including the places you are stopping for controls.<\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;re bringing a <strong>support crew<\/strong>, work out your control stops where you&#8217;ll meet them for food, water and support.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ride it.<\/strong> Take breaks, eat meals, and even sleep if you have spare time.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Keep riding.<\/strong> You must ride a minimum distance of 25km in the last two hours of the event\u00a0 This means you can&#8217;t just bowl over 360km and finish in the middle of the night.\u00a0 Unless you are riding a Fl-Oppy &#8211; then you can do whatever you want.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Finish.<\/strong> Eat breakfast, and tell everyone who&#8217;ll listen how good you are.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a in a Queensland Oppy.\u00a0 This was claimed in 2019, along with a record breaking FNQ women&#8217;s team (370km).\u00a0 The Oppy was cancelled in Queensland in 2020 (yep, the usual reason), and SEQ women pipped us northern gals in 2021.\u00a0 FNQ self-proclaimed the record for having <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longrides.bike\/?page_id=20630\">the most fun in 2022 and 2023<\/a>.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s
