What better way to spend a drizzly (read…..wet, miserable, cold, foggy, windy) Saturday afternoon than on a hilltop in Atherton hearing about the joys of Audax-style long distance riding.
Our first FNQ Audax Information Session heard from four presenters with a wealth of experience in topics central to long distance cycling. Below are the overheads and links from each presentation, with thanks to Brian, Mark, Kim and Peter for making this information available.
Brian is the president of the Queensland region of Audax Australia. He has completed many long distance rides, including Paris-Brest-Paris in 2011. He is a member of the Audax National Committee, and presented an overview of what Audax is all about.
Mark is the Secretary of Audax Queensland, and a veteran of many long distance rides, including Paris-Brest-Paris in 2015. He is on the Asutralian PBP organising committee and spoke about tips and techniques for long distance riding.
Peter has been involved in long distance riding for many years, and a keen participant in Audax rides over the past several years. He has a knack for navigating and using Garmin (and other) gadgets, and is a regular contributor to the online mapping systems used in Audax riding. He presented information on navigation and tried to unravel the mysteries of transferring routes from your computer to your Garmin.
We all know Kim as the ever cheerful volunteer on Audax rides, who is handy with paperwork, handing out munchies, rescuing riders and fixing all manner of breakdowns. Kim is an enthusiastic cook and presented his knowledge of nutrition for endurance athletes including cooking, wrapping and storing food for those long rides.
